[2] Who makes your Noshirts?

The 5 responsible choices of Noshirt

You won't find any labels in our shirts and shorts. If you did, they would probably say Made in Tunisia.

In other words, they are made under controlled conditions by people who get paid a decent wage.

We want you to feel good when you wear Noshirt underwear. About the way it feels and the way it's made. That is why we only use plantations, factories and ateliers where people work in decent conditions and get paid a decent wage.

If the label said Made in China, or Made in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan or Turkey, you might not feel the same way. In fact, if you saw those words on the label, you might not buy it at all. Needless to say, just because a label tells you where a shirt is made, it doesn't tell you exactly who made it, how much they earned, and what type of conditions they worked in. But if the price is low as well, then usually the people who made it didn't get paid very much either. And it was probably made a factory you definitely wouldn't want to work in yourself.

CERTIFIED ATELIERS

The reason we don't put labels in our Noshirts is to make them more comfortable. Not because we don’t want you to know they are made in Tunisia. It might not be the most obvious place. But there is a good reason why we make our shirts there, which we would like to explain in more than just three words.

Our atelier in Tunisia has been awarded an OEKO-TEX certificate, which means the atelier disposes of chemicals and other waste products as carefully and as environmentally friendly as possible. The people who work in the atelier are paid a decent wage that is higher than legal minimum wage in Tunisia. The production line consists of 20 sewing machines in a row, and the workers, mostly women, each have a separate task in the production process.

Furthermore, they don't have to work as fast as they can to get our orders finished on time. On the contrary: we would rather they take their time to make sure every single undershirt is stitched perfectly, than rush through it all as fast as they can. It's not about how quickly the shirts are made. It's about how good they are, and making sure they meet the agreed quality standards.

HANDCRAFTED QUALITY YOU CAN SEE

We know exactly who our shirts are made by and who carries out the quality control at every stage of the production process. And we also know the seamstresses don't have to work 24-hour shifts, but turn off their sewing machines at five o'clock and go home. There is no way you can explain all of that in a tiny little label on the collar. On the other hand, just one look at the quality of the stitching on our undershirts, and that will tell you everything you need to know.
